The COP 14 Presidency on the Green Week 2009

This June in Brussels, the representatives of Polish COP 14 Presidency from the Ministry of Environment demonstrated Polish actions regarding education on climate change and also the last year educational campaign conduced in connection to Climate Conference entitled: ”Change your habits for good, change climate for better”.The main slogan of the Green Week, the biggest annual conference regarding European environmental policy which took place between 23 and 26th of June in Brussels, was 'act and adapt'. During the conference, the multi-faceted challenges of reducing EU and global greenhouse gases emission, as well as issues regarding adaptation to climate change were examined.
During the Green Week the Polish COP14 Presidency from the Ministry of Environment displayed the informative stand regarding the Green Spider Network - the European Commission organization that gathers the Ministries of Environment. This stand presented the campaigns conducted by the ministries from Poland, Belgium, and Romania.
In Brussels, Poland showed the movie summing up the campaign: "Change your habits for good, change climate for better” and presented posters and leaflets specially prepared for this event.
During the Green Week 2009, the climate change was considered from 4 perspectives: EU climate change policy; the international dimension; adaptation to climate change; and '2050 vision: a carbon-free society.'
The conference referred to a wide range of issues: the implementation of the EU climate and energy package, the impact of climate change on employment and social cohesion, biodiversity in connection to adoption to climate change, the green economy, the challenges for the agriculture, the international security dimension and, finally, latest developments in carbon capture and storage.
Among the conference guests were: President of European Commission José Manuel Barroso, Commissioner Stavros Dimas, Swedish Minister of the Environment Andreas Carlgren and Professor Wang Yi from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

reen Week conference (and accompanying exhibition) was organized for the ninth time and is now considered as an important annual forum for dialogue, knowledge and good practices sharing concerning the protection of the environment.The Green Week brings together participants from various levels of government, international institutions, business, non-governmental organizations and the scientific and academic communities. The objective of the conference is to discuss the most effective ways to protect and improve Europe's environment for current and future generations.
The Green Week was the next step of preparation of the international community to the December conference in Copenhagen.
More than 4,000 people from Europe and all around the world participated in this three day conference.
