The exhibition “Technologies for Climate Protection” officially opened
On 30 November in Poznań the Minister of Environment, Mr. Maciej Nowicki officially opened the unique worldwide exhibition “Technologies for Climate Protection”. The exhibition is the most important event accompanying The United Nations Climate Change Conference - COP 14 that begins on 1 December. The initiator of the exhibition is Mr. Maciej Nowicki, Minister of the Environment.
The exhibition presents 120 innovative and original devices from 20 countries. Spanning an area of more than 7,000 m2 modern technologies created to protect the climate are on display. Among them are the newest solutions for hydrogen use as a fuel, energy-saving cars and environmentally-friendly insulation materials.
It is a great honour for me to open this exhibition and I am really proud to be here. I conceived the idea of organizing it during the previous UN Climate Conference in Bali, although I knew that it would be a very difficult task. We succeeded in gathering a lot of extremely important technologies for climate protection from all over the world and simultaneously we were able to present them to the visitors in an attractive and interactive way. I invite everybody to visit it! – said Mr. Nowicki.
The exhibit will also feature exotic inventions which are typical of specific regions of the world. The most interesting ones will include: the hanging gardens from Bangladesh, the fog catchers used on the Cap Verde Islands, which allow for water to be captured from the atmosphere, a solar internet café from Gambia, as well as a dancefloor which produces electricity or the first no-waste city in the world with zero CO2 emissions.
What is more, visitors will be able to take part in the construction of hand-made solar collectors or test their skills in driving a car in an environmental driving simulator. They will have at their disposal an interactive game, which will present the Earth’s climate change to reflect the different results of the negotiations on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
All the inventions at the exhibition are presented in five thematic groups: energy saving, renewable energy sources, environmentally friendly transport, adaptation to climate change and other different designs. The section of renewable energy sources includes the largest number of exhibits; in addition, it is subdivided into groups related to biomass, wind and solar energy.
Agata Go¼dzik, the Curator of the Exhibition adds: We are delighted to invite visitors – among the inventions and technologies, there are not only complicated and advanced devices, but also brilliantly simple solutions, which have often been hand-made. Children as well as adults will enjoy a great time here – we have prepared some special attractions and gifts for them.
The exhibition “Technologies for Climate Protection” is the personal initiative of the Minister of the Environment, Mr. Maciej Nowicki. It is the first project of this type to be held as a side event to the United Nations Climate Change Conference – COP 14. The exhibition is a unique event on a global scale, as it presents a whole spectrum of possible technical solutions designed to protect the earth’s climate.
The exhibition is open until Sunday, 14 December on the International Poznań Fair Grounds. The admittance is free.
